Save the Dates

Save the Dates are an informal pre-invitation mailing. These should go out 6-8 months ahead of a local wedding, and up to 10 months ahead of a destination wedding.

Those who have not been to, or in, a wedding in the 10 years have maybe never heard of a Save the Date. In that sense, this is a relatively new thing. But, the idea has been around long enough that trends are emerging, along with some sage "Do"s and "Don't"s. Hop on any popular wedding topic online message board, and sooner or later, someone will post about Save the Dates.

Save the dates can be as highly personalized as invitations, and often, couples can get away with having a more personalized, goofy-fun tone.

Popular themes are often seasonal- spring flowers, autumn leaves, winter snowflakes. Calendars with the date circled are a common element. Vegas weddings might feature dice, cards, or images from vegas. Beach weddings could include palm trees, sea shells, or a photograph of the beach itself. Photo booth cards, sport and concert ticket look-a-likes, and boarding passes are all popular.

Couples can go with cards, printed fridge magnets, bookmarks... or even cds burned with photographs, music, and a presentation.
