Hello, My name is Saxen Burt and I’m from Houston, Texas. Throughout my life, I’ve always been involved with sports. For as long as I can remember I've always belonged to a team. This varied from football, soccer, lacrosse, basketball, golf, you name it. If I wasn’t a part of any team, I was doing something wrong. This all changed when Covid caused my school to transfer to an online teaching method.

My Junior year of high school was my last year of being on the lacrosse team. I had so much free time I didn’t know what to do with myself. The time I once used for practice quickly became time staring at my computer. Even though it was great, I knew I had to find something to do. This led me to find rock climbing.

I’ve been climbing for about 2 years ever since the gym opened up after quarantine. Even then, I felt the need to be part of a team. When I finally got to the great school of UGA, I was browsing clubs to get involved on campus, and to my surprise, I discovered there existed a climbing club at the Ramsey Student Center. This allowed me to do what I loved and be a part of a team.

I used climbing as a release from my everyday covid lifestyle and it has flourished into a hobby that I’ll be doing for the rest of my life, or until I'm too old…
