History of Santa Barbara
The iconic city of Santa Barbara which was incorporated on April 9, 1850, is a coastal city in located in state of California, USA. The city is the county seat of Santa Barbara County, on a south-facing section of coastline, on the West Coast of the United States.
Life has existed in the area for more than 13,000 years, and the Chumash tribe were one of the earliest inhabitants of the area. In 1542, Portuguese expeditions came to the area and were the first Europeans who visited the region.
About 8,000 to 10,000 Chumash tribe were resident of the area where the city was located, on the south coast of Santa Barbara County, and Five different Chumash villages flourished in the area. The Spanish moved to the area during the Mission Santa Barbara, which is popularly called "the Queen of the Missions,". It was established in 1786 by the Franciscan friars, however, the city was named due to Sebastián Vizcaíno, a Spanish Maritime explorer who sailed for the Kingdom of Spain through the area in the 1500s.
