Dr. Salvador Mena
"Servant leaders put followers first, empower them, and help them develop their full personal capacities” (Northouse, 2013, p. 219.)
Dr. Mena works in higher education and student affairs because he wants to make other people successful. He wants all students to have an equal opportunity and the resources needed to achieve their goals. He bases his leadership style on the situtation that he is in. He feels most comfortable in a #2 role, but he can adjust his style based on the needs of the group.
"Leadership is composed of both a directive and a supportive dimension, and each has to be applied appropriately in a given situation.” (Northouse, 2013, p. 99.)
