Student in Silver Spring, Maryland

I am a transfer student from a small school near virginia beach called Christopher Newport. I am from maryland, so this was not too far from home, georgia however, is a little further. I went to my last school to play division 3 soccer on a top 25 team in the country. I have been playing soccer since I was around 5 years old. I grew up playing many sports, but soccer was always my favorite. At around 12 years old I realized that playing on the field wasn't my strong suit, so I switched to goalkeeping. We typically switched who “had” to play goalie each game as nobody wanted to do it. For some reason it felt comfortable to me immediately. After years of dreaming of going pro and playing division 1, when recruitment started I realized that was not the path I wanted to go down (not that I was good enough to be pro). But I came to understand that soccer was no longer my life, but I thought giving up a spot on a college team would be something I would regret. So instead of exploring bigger school options, I committed to hopefully enjoy the sport again. After the season, I pretty much knew it was my time to let go. The sport that once brought me the highest of highs, was putting me in a lower place than I could have ever imagined. I am forever grateful I took that opportunity and met a community I will love forever. Without this experience, I would not be attending UGA today and have the most incredible path ahead of me.
