Two Health-related investigations won both top honors in the Barlett & Steele Awards for Investigative Business Journalism this year. Funded by the Donald W. Reynolds Nation al Center for Business Journalism, judge stories based on “investigative enterprise, strong business theme, writing style, clarity and impact.”
Reuters’ Murray Waas won top honors, for his story, “Diagnosed with Breast Cancer, Dropped by Insurer,” an investigation of WellPoint’s policy of dropping customers after they became ill-- among them clients recently diagnosed with breast cancer. The story was one of a series of four written by Murray Waas on the subject. In addition to the Barlett & Steele honors, Murray Waas also won SABEW's investigative reporting prize.
