Brian Schoening is an aerospace engineer, sustainability leader and strategist, and environmentalist. His passion for environmental responsibility has led him into implementing sustainability within the corporate environment, across municipalities and into the home. His interest is in exploring the intersection of aerospace, technology, and environmental conservation to help develop solutions that address today’s global challenges.

Brian is an experienced engineer of 15 years in the aerospace industry and currently serves as the Director of Sustainability for Northrop Grumman Corporation.

Previously, he was the Program Manager for Northrop Grumman’s environmental sustainability and compliance programs. Prior to making a career shift to sustainability, Brian was a structural design and integration engineer on the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter and the James Webb Space Space Telescope.

Brian has a diverse background within in the space industry where he worked for the X PRIZE Foundation and was integral in developing the Google Lunar X PRIZE competition to land a privately funded rover on the moon. He also worked in an operations support role to the Space Shuttle and International Space Station programs at the NASA Johnson Space Center.

Building on his passion for the environment, Brian played a key role in the growth of the City of Hermosa Beach's sustainability program. He was a member of the inaugural Hermosa Beach Green Task Force and also a founding member of the City's Green Idea City, carbon neutral efforts.

Brian holds a bachelors degree in aerospace engineering from Purdue University, a masters degree in space management from the International Space University, and a Certificate in Global Sustainability from the University of California Los Angeles Extension.
