Evan Schuman

New York Metro Area

Have been tracking retail, mobile, privacy, payment and security issues for longer than I care to admit. (Let's just say that it goes back quite a few presidential administrations. My first professional byline and national broadcast credit dated to the very end of the Carter Administration, frighteningly enough.)

Currently pen a weekly column for Computerworld. Was the Founding Editor of StorefrontBacktalk, a site that tracked retail technology issues until I sold it to a B2B publisher after running it for seven years. (Here's what the site was like before it was changed by the new owners: http://archives.thecontentfirm.com/.)

Before that, was the Retail Editor at Ziff-Davis (which at the time meant eWEEK, PCMagazine, Baseline, CIOInsights and a few other titles), as well as a columnist for CBSNews.com and RetailWeek (largest retail publication in the U.K.).

And before that, spent 11 years at CMP Media in various editorial roles, including News Editor at InformationWeek, News Editor at TechWeb, Editor-at-Large for CommunicationsWeek and Editorial Director CP. Even earlier, cover legal, business and technology issues (plus politics) and did investigative reporting for mid-sized daily newspapers. Before that was a mix of reporting for wire services (hit all three: AP, Reuters and UPI), major metro dailies (including New York Times national desk, USA Today, Detroit News, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Baltimore Sun, Los Angeles Herald-Examiner and The Philadelphia Inquirer) and broadcast networks (the majors in the U.S. and Canada).
