Sean Lafaye

Hello everyone. I’m, Mr. Lafaye, the Art teacher at Carolina Springs Middle School. I'm look forward to starting my 13th year here at Carolina Springs. I have been Teacher Of The Year in two separate school districts and hold National Board Certification in Art. I have Bachelors in Art Education and a Masters in Elementary Education. I spend my free time with my son Stratford, our two cats Ceelo and Tiberius, and hanging with friends

Philosophy of Education:

The educational process can’t be defined by one or two key terms or reference points; instead, it should be a driving force in the creative and productive nature of the child. Without the desire to learn, the mind becomes complacent, and the body wanders through life without purpose. I hope to create within the child a desire to learn beyond the walls of the classroom. This desire to learn, I hope, will allow the child to see past whatever boundaries have been established by his/her environment. By opening a child’s mind to the universe, the child will inherently learn that he /she is only limited by his/ her own willingness to follow through on any given task or test of will. Through art, I hope to improve students’ self-confidence, foster their acceptance of difference, and help them perceive the world with a sense of wonder past childhood. I encourage my students to see connections between art and other subject areas in school, and I try to focus on the students’ individuality and the expressive quality that each possesses.
