Scott Barbour MD

Board-certified orthopaedic surgeon Scott Barbour, MD, began his training in orthopaedics in 1996. During the following several years, he worked under the team physicians for the Miami Dolphins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and with University of Miami athletes. During this time, Scott Barbour, MD, served for a year as a Team Physician at Baptist Health South Florida in Coral Gables. In this capacity, he handled care for athletes from Florida International University in Miami and Miami Jackson Senior High School and conducted pre-participation physicals for athletes from Miami-Dade County.
Dr. Barbour followed his residency in orthopaedic surgery with intensive training in sports medicine as a fellow with Dr. Warren King, MD, and the Palo Alto Medical Foundation in California. While working there, he received additional advanced training in highly specialized techniques and worked with the Oakland Raiders, the San Jose Sharks, and the United States National Rugby Team, and cared for many professional and amateur athletes. Dr. Scott Barbour was responsible for conducting pre-participation physicals for the teams. He also treated athletes from the College of San Mateo, the East-West Shrine Game of 2002, and the NFL Combine of 2002.
After completing his fellowship in 2002, Scott Barbour, MD, co-founded the Comprehensive Orthopaedic Group, LLC, in Cumming, Georgia, a suburb outside of Atlanta. He served as Team Physician for Bannaker High School's soccer and football teams, the U-19 United States National Rugby Team that played in the 2004 U-19 Rugby World Cup in Venice, Italy, and the Forsyth Central High School soccer team.
Dr. Barbour has published extensively within his field. He authored "The Safe and Effective Use of Allograft: An Update," which appeared in the American Journal of Sports Medicine. He also co-authored a chapter that was published in a well-known textbook. Dr. Barbour serves as a reviewer for the American Journal of Sports Medicine and has delivered numerous presentations at meetings of professional organizations.
Currently, Scott Barbour, MD, owns a company, Georgia Institute of Sports Medicine, P.C., and practices in three locations in Decatur, Snellville, and Cumming, Georgia. He maintains affiliations with two hospitals: Northside Hospital-Forsyth in Cumming and DeKalb Medical Center in Decatur.
