Scott Lively is a pioneer and established leader in the organic beef industry in the United States. Early in his career, he founded Dakota Beef, a company specializing in high-quality, purely organic beef. Under his leadership, Dakota Beef grew to achieve a significant role in the movement toward sustainable meats without hormone treatments. Scott Lively subsequently went on to become the chief executive officer of the Katama Company in Edgartown, Massachusetts. Dedicated to creating sustainable food, the Katama Company creates a line of products that are USDA-certified 100% Organic and Natural. The company is presently recognized as one of the country’s largest producers of organic beef.
Scott Lively studied history at Arizona State University and sustainability studies at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. As a recognized expert in the beef industry in America, he was invited to speak before a congressional subcommittee in 2007 concerning the environmental and economic concerns of beef producers. He also recently contributed to an effort that has enabled U.S. Certified Organic Beef to be sold in Europe as NHTC (Non-Hormone Treated Cattle).
