Scott McCartney

Recognised from his user name Friburg, Scott is best known for his website Insert Controller, a site dedicated to reviews and news in video games, most commonly known for its noble service to new writers looking for a foot in the door to journalism.

If Scott isn’t writing and working for his website you’d probably find him writing his book or a song or two on his guitar. His passion for guitar started when he was 16 and he’d just been to his first concert, the band was the Red Hot Chili Peppers, he was amazed when watching John Frusciante rock the stadium, he wanted to do exactly that. After a year of playing guitar he gave up on his IT studies at college and started on a music degree, while he studied he developed an interest in studio work. Towards the end of his studies he fell into a depression and when he left college, packed up his equipment and focused on something new. Little did he know that his next step would change his life forever!

Scott started his work in 2010 when he wanted to write a personal blog containing his views about video games which he had played. As time went by he began to notice activity on his blog was increasing, next thing he knew, his friend Will wanted to help out by offering his voice. Things started changing from a blog into a full on website and on the 1st of April of 2013, his blog took on a new mission, to deliver great news and reviews while offering a foot in the door for new and upcoming writers looking to get a start in games journalism.

Now that he was running a successful website, he found a desire to expand his writing from journalism and started writing a book, not much is known of his book leaving the only people who know its contents to be his girlfriend, Hannah, and his mother, Kellie.

“I am more than happy with life! I hope things stay this good for the rest of my life.” – Scott McCartney
