Scott Merves
As co-founder, Senior Analyst, and Portfolio Manager of BroadArch Capital LLC in New York City, Scott Merves shares oversight of two hedge fund strategies, including market-neutral and long/short equities, with assets under management approximating $40 million. In this capacity, he bears responsibility for reviewing investment plans, developing strategies to limit risk, and marketing funds to prospective and current clients. Overall, BroadArch Capital focuses on United States equities “driven by a fundamental and bottom-up investment process.” Prior to forming BroadArch Capital in 2010, Scott Merves served as a Senior Analyst/Portfolio Manager covering Industrials and Basic Materials and as a Senior Managing Director of Bear Stearns Asset Management Inc. in New York. The maker of key investment decisions, he helped manage capital of $1 billion in two equity hedge fund strategies. Previously, in 1994, Mr. Merves joined Bear, Stearns & Co. Inc. in New York, earning a promotion to Associate Director and Senior Equity Analyst in only four years. Scott Merves’ top stock picks included Fort James Corporation, up 36 percent in one year, and Kimberly-Clark Corporation, up 11 percent. He also wrote detailed investment reports, built financial models, and marketed investment opportunities to institutional analysts and portfolio managers in industries such as packaging, personal care products, and paper and forest products. Mr. Merves graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.A. in Organizational Management. Over the course of his distinguished career, the financial services executive has earned honorable mention recognition and as one of the Best Up-and-Comers in Institutional Investor magazine and was part of the team that twice received acknowledgement in The Wall Street Journal Analyst Survey as Best Stock Picker. Sharing his success, he sits on the Board of Directors of R Baby Foundation, based in New York. The organization works to improve medical care for infants, particularly newborn babies with conditions such as viral infections. Scott Merves also supports the Movember Foundation, which raises awareness of prostate cancer and other types of cancer affecting men.
