Scott Rusis

Scott Rusis is a longstanding presence in the Gainesville, Florida, entrepreneurial community who has served as director of operations at Basic Black for two decades. A focus for Scott Rusis is on engineering custom-designed equipment that protects lives. His firm’s bullet-resistant products meet the needs of law enforcement professionals and those in the special forces.

Also the owner of Black Dog Mechanical, Mr. Rusis fulfills military contracts that include gas and water piping, as well as heating and cooling systems. His team works on large-scale projects, including those involving the installation of chillers that can cool as much as 500 tons of product.

As a former member of the US Marine Corps in the 1980s, Mr. Rusis participated in Security Force Regiment missions. His directives involved ensuring the security of critical naval assets, including nuclear weaponry and vessels running on nuclear power. Scott Rusis’ background also includes past positions with multiple Orlando law enforcement agencies, and serving as a SWAT officer and narcotics detective.
