I’ve built and ran businesses all my life.

In my 20’s I started an investment management business. That business was founded after seeing several relatives being ripped off of their hard earned life savings by nothing more than uneducated salespeople selling investment products. I thought there had to be a better way. That lead me to starting a non-traditional investment management business centered on the concepts of keeping your investment costs low, asset allocation and using low cost index funds as investment vehicles in order for clients to have the highest probability of achieving the actual returns of the stock and bond markets. The more someone paid in fees, the less return they earned!

A few years later I merged the investment management business with another local investment business that shared the same investment principles. Shortly after the combined merger I went on to run and grow the company, which grew in size from $60 million in managed client investment assets to $1.4 billion. In 2015, I sold my ownership interest in Portfolio Solutions, LLC and took some much needed time off when I and another owner had different visions for the future direction of the firm.

Along the way I have been quoted and/or interviewed by the following publications: The Wall Street Journal, Investor’s Business Daily, Kiplinger’s Retirement Report, Crain’s Detroit Business, TheStreet.com, Cheddar.tv and MarketWatch.com among others.
