Sudeep Popat

Sudeep Popat is an Assistant Research Scientist in the Swette Center for Environmental Biotechnology at the Biodesign Insitute of Arizona State University, where he also conducted his postdoctoral research between 2010 and 2012. He received his Ph. D. in Chemical and Environmental Engineering from the University of California, Riverside, in 2010, and his B. S. in Chemical Engineering from the Sardar Patel University, India, in 2006.

Sudeep currently works on microbial electrochemical cells, which is a promising suite of technologies for achieving sustainable and efficient conversion of waste to energy. His work is focused on using electrochemical techniques to understand both anode and cathode catalysis in these systems. Previously, he conducted his doctoral research in the areas of biological waste gas treatment, and microbial reductive dechlorination of hazardous chlorinated pollutants. He has published his research in high-impact scientific journals, such as Environmental Science & Technology, Biotechnology and Bioengineering, Water Research, and ChemSusChem.
