Caroline Scur

Student in Athens

My name is Caroline Scurlock. Growing up, I played every sport under the sun: volleyball, gymnastics, cheer, tennis, dance, soccer, golf, and basketball. By the end of high school, I had served two years as the captain of my basketball team with three soccer state championships under my belt. Additionally, I joined the golf team my senior year, and although golf was not my strong suit, I learned how to have a good time with sports and not put so much pressure on myself. Growing up being coached by someone much wiser than me and constantly being surrounded by some sort of team at all times taught me cooperation, teamwork, and dedication. I owe some of my best memories and friendships to sports. In the good times and the bad, sports were always there for me. Now that I am in college, as someone who loves to write and talk, becoming a sports journalist is a dream of mine. There is a certain kind of beauty about sports that you do not find anywhere else. Sports unite diverse groups of people despite their many differences. At the end of the day, sports bring us all together. Sports have always been a constant in my life, teaching me so many lessons and providing me with so many memories, and I hope that they will continue to be an integral part of my future career.
