Who are the best candidates for plastic surgery?
Not everyone who desires to undergo plastic surgery can be fit for the surgical procedure. This is because not everyone may be physically and emotionally fit to have a surgical operation. Certain conditions can prevent individuals from having plastic surgery.
One of the reasons a person may be considered unfit to undergo plastic surgery is his or her emotional state.
Webmd.com says people with Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) are one of those who are said to be unfit for plastic surgery. “People with BDD are obsessively preoccupied with a perceived defect in their physical appearance even if others reassure them they look fine. Common obsessions include moles or freckles being too large, acne appearance, or breast size. According to ASAPS, patients with underlying health or emotional problems may not be good candidates for surgery, and may be dissatisfied with objectively successful surgical results.”

Red Flag
A CNN.com article on plastic surgery also mentioned another red flag plastic surgeons consider on a person requesting to undergo elective plastic surgery. In their article, they mentioned that doctors believe a person wanting to undergo surgery to look exactly like another person may not be mentally fit to have her desired operation.
“Trying to transform a person's look to mimic a celebrity is a glaring sign that he or she suffers from low self-esteem or possibly even more complicated mental health problems such as borderline personality disorder or psychosis, Ritvo said. The pursuit of beauty is healthy as long as it doesn't morph into an unhealthy obsession such as anorexia, bulimia or body dysmorphic disorder, she said.”

General health
But when a person is generally healthy, and do not have serious health issues like chronically elevated blood pressure or other heart disease, diabetes, a bleeding disorder or emotional health issues then in general, he can be cleared to undergo plastic surgery.
In case there are issues about hypertension, or a history of kidney illnesses, or even diabetes, plastic surgeons will usually require laboratory tests that will determine if the patient’s body can be receptive to anaesthesia.
