Sean Hookano-Briel

Aloha! I am the co-founder of the educational consulting firm DCT: Developing Critical Thinkers LLC, and the co-founder of the learning software company Comprendio. My own classroom teaching experience began in Hawai'i 2006 as a ELL High School Math teacher along with Geometry, and eventually Repeater Algebra I. It was in my 6th year of teaching that I collaborated and co-created a student directed curriculum that successfully took my Repeating Algebra I pass rate from 12% to 71%. This achievement led my co-creator and I to designing and executing state accredited teacher professional development courses since the fall of 2010 and ultimately, the founding of both DCT and Comprendio. These opportunities have led me to training educators locally, nationally, and internationally, co-presenting a TEDx Talk, co-designing a Teacher Professional Development Incubator for the Hawaii State Teachers Association, and sharing best practices with business leaders on how to develop innovative and transformational learning experiences. When I am not challenging learning mindsets, I can be found exploring the ocean through fishing, free diving, or surfing.
