Sean Finn
Amherst, Massachusetts, United States
My name is Sean Finn, and I am a junior accounting major studying in the Isenberg School Of Management at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. I consider myself a very motivated student, frequently finding my nose in a textbook and constantly moving at the highest gear. While I do find it difficult to take a few moments to myself, I have one hobby that I try to make as much time for as possible, and that hobby is the sport of basketball.
Basketball is a great sport; a beautiful combination of creativity and determination that is easy to learn and very accessible, as there are basketball courts scattered throughout the world. I try to play as much as I can, preferring playing with the company of my closest friends in ultra-competitive 3 on 3 games. I have a unique relationship with basketball; I play frequently but the truth is I am not as good as I would like to be. I strive to be better, and I have made significant strides in becoming a better basketball player. This is how accounting and basketball are similar; I have my struggles with each of them, but the fact that I truly enjoy them both and have the willingness to put in time and effort to become better means that I will eventually succeed. I often find my coursework to be difficult, but no longer do I get discouraged if I get confused. I become motivated, and strive to become better. As I approach a career in the field of accounting, I can relate my efforts in bookkeeping to my efforts for the perfect jump shot. I have put in work and seen results, and that is encouragement that I will experience success in my career, as well as basketball.
