Sean Mannix is a seasoned law enforcement professional with 36 years of experience in public safety. He has held various leadership positions, including Assistant Chief of Police in Austin and Chief of Police in Cedar Park, Texas. Throughout his career, he focused on refining policing strategies, implementing advanced training programs, and strengthening community leadership. After retiring in 2020, Sean served as the Statewide Traffic Incident Management Coordinator for the Texas Department of Transportation.

Born in California, Sean is one of five children. From an early age, he knew that law enforcement was his calling, inspired by his father, who worked as a law enforcement officer. At 18, Sean joined the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, which helped develop his leadership abilities and solid work ethic.

He graduated with honors from Excelsior College with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and later earned a Master of Arts in Homeland Security from American Military University. Sean also attended the FBI National Academy, the Leadership Command College, and the Senior Management Institute for Police, gaining valuable insights and skills.

After completing his Marine Corps service, Sean began his law enforcement career at the Alameda Police Department, where he was the youngest officer at 20. He later moved to Austin in 1993 and joined the Austin Police Department. Over the next two decades, Sean advanced through the ranks, eventually becoming Assistant Chief. His leadership in Austin contributed to efforts such as crime reduction through the COMPSTAT model, bolstered community outreach programs, and formed partnerships with federal agencies like the FBI and DEA.

In 2013, Retired Chief Sean Mannix transitioned to become Chief of Police for the Cedar Park Police Department. During his tenure, he worked to enhance officer training, emphasizing community policing. He introduced innovative programs like de-escalation training, body-worn cameras, and a wellness program that gained national recognition. Under his leadership, the department became one of the region’s most respected, boasting a diverse workforce and strong community trust.
