“The garden reconciles human art and wild nature, hard work and deep pleasure, spiritual practice and the material world. It is a magical place because it is not divided.“
I’m Sean, and I offer eco-gardening services to families and busy professionals in the Reading Green Park area… as maintaining and beautifying our personal green spaces is the least we can do for these cradles of some of our most cherished memories, and for our escapes from the mundanity of daily life.
Long before moving to Green Park myself in late 2024, I was moved to that decision by the area’s scenic beauty in the same way no doubt struck so many of its prospective (and now current) residents.
Green Park was always meant to be an example of our ability to live in harmony with nature, as it was built in the sustainable way on a wetland and floodplain between the River Kennet and River Thames. As is known by more and more of us today: trying to pave over and ‘tame’ habitats such as Green Park’s (without real regard for their natural character) just exposes homes and livelihoods to greater risk, and for this reason its opting for a different approach was innovative and ethical, and brought long-term benefit to not only the thousands of residents, many businesses, but to the dozens of species of birds and bats that dwell with us here (just to name a few).
My nature-oriented family (a wildlife photographer and florist for a mother who I also remember barely leaving the vegetable patch in our childhood home, and now a marine biologist for a sister) raised me with these values, but many years working and volunteering for the Wildlife Trusts only reinforced them for me. The Wildlife Trusts’ Biodiversity Benchmark - by which Green Park abides - is the gold standard for landowning businesses and we are all the beneficiaries of it.
The Wildlife Trusts and all major conservation charities will tell you that our gardens also present an incredible opportunity to extend the amount of nature-friendly space in the UK available to wildlife, and as the privileged residents of this wonderful area we can all do our part. For my part, I have enough knowledge, experience, and passion to contribute to this mission and if you’d made it this far you should see why!
If you’d like a gardener who genuinely cares about both your outdoor space and the wider natural world, I’d be delighted to assist. Whether you need regular upkeep, seasonal tidying, planting, trimming, or general care, I’ll help you get the most from your garden.
