Sean Sakamoto

Sean Sakamoto is a writer and filmmaker whose work and interests center around idea-driven narratives. From his years as a columnist for Mainichi Weekly (A New York Minute) to his role as story producer on Star Trek: Secrets of the Universe (HISTORY), and producer on the NAACP Image Award-nominated Roots: A History Revealed (HISTORY), Sean enjoys making complicated concepts and ideas accessible through storytelling.

Sean recently wrote and directed The Reception, his first short film with actors Richard Kind and Skipp Sudduth. He also recently completed Woke Up Like This, a novel that envisions a near future after Universal Basic Income has been passed.

Sean was honored to attend Breadloaf Writers Conference for the second time as a Donald Everett Axinn Returning Contributor in Fiction. Sean Sakamoto lives on Manhattan’s lower east side with his wife and son.
