Sean St. John is a Toronto businessman with over 25 years of experience in the field of banking and finance. He currently serves as the Executive Vice President, Managing Director, Head of Fixed Income and Co-Head of Risk Management Solutions at National Bank Financial in Toronto, Canada. As a member of the bank’s executive management team, he is responsible for all aspects of the fixed income division, including sales and trading, interest rate derivatives, debt capital markets and infrastructure finance.

Sean St. John has spent the last 25 years at National Bank, having helped lead the development and growth of the company’s fixed income group into a top ranked Canadian underwriter. He has been instrumental in establishing National Bank as a major player in the Canadian market. (National bank is #1 in government and high yield finance.)

Sean St. John’s career at National Bank began in 1996 when he was hired as Vice President of Fixed Income. Over the years, Sean’s knowledge and expertise has earned him valuable roles at National Bank, including several management and committee titles and co-head positions.

Prior to Sean’s tenure at National Bank, he served as a Junior Bond Trader at Burns Fry from 1991 until 1994 and then a Corporate Bond Trader at Richardson Greenshields from 1994 to 1996.

Sean graduated with honors from York University in 1990 with a degree in business administration.

Sean is on the board of Right to Play, and a proud supporter of the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation as well as the Children’s Aid Foundation. Sean is also on the Board of Governors for Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer and recently, Sean and his team at National Bank participated in the annual Scotiabank Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer 2018 Event at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto. The event raised $2.7 million dollars to support cutting-edge cancer research at the Princess Margaret Centre, one of the top five cancer research centers in the world.

Additionally, Sean chaired the 2018 Right to Play Heroes Gala honoring Louis Vachon (National Bank CEO) and raised a record-breaking $2.8mm for the organization. He is also the Co-Founder of the Social Impact Film and Art Festival.

Outside of his professional career and philanthropic efforts, Sean is a single father, with most of his spare time shared with his son, Alex.
