I began when I was 15 years old. I walked 1/2 mile to a job site and it took 3 days to be chosen. Back then you were picked by the carpenters who they wanted for laborers. Women were not looked at as a great choice. This older gentleman chose me on the 3rd. day, as I set there on my tool bucket with my head down he said I will take her. I was so happy because I was sitting there trying to figure out what to do because I was going to give up., on that day.

I worked hard and I listened to everything he told me and taught me. At lunch time I would stay by our work area. I would have our work area cleaned up from all debris, watched over his tools while he was at lunch, and had all per-cuts he yelled out to me ready when he returned from lunch so he did not have to cut them, I was learning. I did this every day until the job was completed, approximately 2 years. From the first day when the other carpenters seen how I worked, they wanted me to come with them but I stayed with the one who gave me a chance.. He was the one who made me what I have become. My passion and love for construction becomes stronger as I grow wiser. The way this man taught me about building, the way I learned, by this man that choose me, is what made me who I Am!
