Selena Flores

Ornithology, Conservation Biology, and Fieldwork

Back my campaign

I'm Selena, an American wildlife & conservation biologist, currently residing in South Africa, & working wherever the birds may take me! The adventures of my work & life involve birds, coasts, islands, natural history specimens, bikes (both bicycles & motorbikes), artistic endeavours, & being outdoors.

RESEARCH:

I am particularly interested in using birds as indicator species, assessing the impacts of anthropogenic (human-caused) pressures, and implications of this for conservation intervention initiatives. I intend for my work and involvement otherwise to have practical applications in natural resource management strategy, species recovery plans, and influencing environmental policy.

SCIENCE COMMUNICATION:

With community engagement and outreach, my main intention is finding effective methods of getting the public interested and invested in understanding nature, and ultimately the ecological science behind conservation. Encouraging people to take part in easy, responsible actions in their daily lives that can contribute positively toward reducing our impact on the natural world is another important aim of my own science communication efforts.
