Selma Calapez

i am a portuguese artist residing in th us. i arrived to nyc in february 2007 to study theater acting. i came for 6 months but ended up doing the full 2 year program. i started to observe my body as it changed, my anatomy adapting to this new geography. feeling in one language and expressing those feelings in another one, my brain constantly being challenged and stimulated. i started taking more pictures and building more objects because these don't have a language, they are a language. i am an explorer, a cartographer, a storyteller. i have my body and my mind as my tools and everyday i chart new territory.
