Preston Smith, who served as a Georgia State Senator of Georgia from 2003 to 2011, has enjoyed a career that afforded him diverse opportunities to provide service in the legal, business and healthcare fields. At present, he is the chief compliance officer and chief revenue officer of ApolloMD, a company based in Atlanta, Georgia, that provides specialized physician services to hospitals across the nation. Preston Smith’s previous experience with health care includes a legal practice that addressed issues of hospital law, malpractice, and medical business organization.
During Sen. Smith’s service as state senator, he served as Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee and authored several pieces of legislation that met the approval of his fellow senators. Among these were: an increase in fines for criminals convicted of drug-related offenses - with the additional money directed toward expanded drug and addiction treatment programs; a law implementing a state-wide drivers' education program as a prerequisite to obtaining a drivers' license; a statewide reform to the medical liability and tort laws; and, a law that prevents the state government from citing eminent domain in order to acquire private property for economic development.
In his remaining time, Preston Smith enjoys a broad range of activities, such as hiking, writing humor articles, maintaining classic American automobiles, and reading historical and biographical books and fictional thriller novels.
