Sequoia Owens is an honor student at Texas State University – San Marcos. She is studying Public Relations in the School of Mass Communication & Journalism, and will graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in May of 2014.
From there, she hopes to work with non-profit organization in Houston. Sequoia has spent many hours working for Bobcat PR, a student-run PR Firm at Texas State which involves working on accounts communicating with clients’ audiences via social media and press/news releases. She joined to get a better idea of what she could be looking forward to in her future and she hopes to work particularly with vegan non-profits.
At Texas State University, Sequoia has also pursued studies in psychology which has broadened her ability to empathize people and client’s needs and desires. Psychology has expanded her open mind-ness and she loves to listen to others thoughts opinions and hardships which she tries her hardest to aid them in any way possible.
Aside from schoolwork, the native Houstonian is part of the Delta Zeta Chapter on her campus. The organization has educated her in the fundamental lesson of being in a sorority, which is the notion that “one is always in her letters.” This has taught her how significant her actions are and how they directly reflect Delta Zeta. She has taken this lesson and applied is to all aspects of her life, in any job or position she obtains she plans to uphold this lesson and understands her actions are a direct reflection of the organization. And there is more than just a commitment to showing up and doing mediocre work,
When she’s not doing schoolwork, promoting clients, or serving others, Sequoia plays competitive tennis for Texas State Club team. She’s played tennis since she was seven years old and has gotten the opportunity to travel nationally and internationally to compete and practice among professional. She’s also had the chance to coach aspiring players.
When she does get some down time from striving to make her dreams reality, Sequoia enjoys traveling and is ambitious to visit every place in her “1000 places to see before you die” book. She also spends a great deal of time staying on top of the health movement, diet, exercise and lifestyle choices.
One of Sequoia’s passions is being a voice for the voiceless. She is a vegan activist and demonstrates and promotes the ending of animal suffering over all aspects of cruelty. Sequoia also volun
