Sergei Shushunov

Sergei Shushunov is a pediatrician with more than 30 years of expertise in his field. Dr. Sergei Shushunov presently works at Advanced Arlington Medica Center and prior to that he served as Division Chief of the Pediatric Critical Care Center at the University of Kansas Medical Center, where he focuses on childhood medical conditions, including asthma, diabetes, and traumatic injury. Additionally, Dr. Shushunov served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Kansas, where he mentors future doctors. In the past, Dr. Sergei Shushunov held such roles as Medical Director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago and Medical Director of St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman, Illinois. Additionally, he publishes his medical insights and discoveries in various medical journals, among them The Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal and Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine.
In order to prepare for his career, Dr. Shushunov completed an extensive medical education. After earning his medical degree from Saint Petersburg Pediatric Medical Institute, he secured a residency in pediatrics at the Illinois Masonic Medical Center. Dr. Shushunov subsequently completed fellowships in pediatric critical care at the University of Florida College of Medicine and the University of Minnesota Twin Cities Medical School.
Dr. Shushunov spent the first 30 years of his life in the Soviet Union, where and developed skills as a cartographer, a sailor, a carpenter, and a clarinet player. He ultimately chose medicine as a path that enabled him to help others. In his free time, Dr. Sergei Shushunov enjoys listening to jazz, sailing, tasting fine wines, gardening, hunting attending ballet performances, and cooking.
