Professor, Engineer, and Plasma Science in Lafayette, Indiana

Hello, I'm Dr. Sergey Macheret. My career in plasma science and aerospace engineering began in Kiev, Ukraine, where I first developed a passion for physics. I pursued this interest at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, earning an M.S. in Physics, and later completed my Ph.D. in Plasma Physics and Plasma Chemistry at the Kurchatov Institute of Atomic Energy.

My professional path has taken me through several esteemed academic institutions, including Ohio State University, Princeton University, and Purdue University. At Purdue, I served as a Professor of Aeronautics and Astronautics from 2014 to 2024, and I expanded my role to include a professorship in Electrical and Computer Engineering between 2022 and 2024. In addition to my academic roles, I've also made significant contributions to aerospace engineering during my time with Lockheed Martin’s Skunk Works, where we tackled some of the most cutting-edge projects in the field.

In 2023, I ventured into entrepreneurship by founding US Plasma Engineering LLC, focusing on developing innovative plasma technologies. My efforts in the field have been recognized by my peers, leading to my election as a Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and earning accolades such as the 2022 AIAA Plasmadynamics and Lasers Award. My work has been extensively published, with over 170 papers, several books and book chapters, and numerous patents, all contributing to the advancement of science and technology.
