Sergio de la Cruz

Student in Atlanta

Hello there, my name is Sergio! I am a second year student at the University of Georgia on the pre-med track. As a pre-med I have spent many hours working on my application for medical school. A competitive application has many hours involving shadowing, research, clinical hours, and volunteering.

As a second year student my application is not ready. However, I have been working hard the past year and a half. I have shadowed an orthopedic surgeon for about 40 hours. This experience showed me how a doctors office operate. An experience I will not forget any time soon happened during this past summer. I volunteered at a local hospital in Atlanta. I showed up five days a week for about two and a half months. I was on a cardiac pre-post procedure floor. I helped out the nurses on the floor by rounding on patients, secretary work, and stocking. This experience showed me how a large hospital works. I am now currently in training to be a volunteer for a crisis hotline. I am excited for this as I will be able to make a direct impact on people who are going through difficult times. I am excited to see how I can help and serve the community.
