Hi There,
I am Sergio, the Founder and Director of Serge Energy. I would like to share some thoughts with you; as investors and business people, we all need to make sure that our businesses and investments operate in areas that contribute to the good of the planet. Otherwise, the investments that we do make, will almost certainly be contributing to climate change. Investing in the production of renewable energy should not only be about doing good, but it should also be about being financially rewarded for getting that work done, and why not?
Successes in renewable energy production lead to more and more companies changing the way they produce energy. This will benefit you and me in the long and the short term.
It is not about ‘peak oil’, it’s about peak-frustration from whole sections of society at the lack of change or direction by governments and leaders. Well, we think that that is about to change.
Mark Carney, the governor of the Bank of England as long ago as 2015 declared that climate change had become a “financial stability risk”. In 2017 The Bank of England was one of eight central banks and financial regulators who created the so-called Network for Greening Financial Systems (NFGS). That network now numbers thirty-six members, including insurers. Insurers are only too well aware that the cost, economically, from natural disasters, have been exacerbated by, if not caused by, climate change. In seven out of the last ten years, the annual costs from climate change disruption, have exceeded the last thirty year average of $140,000,000,000.
For the individual investor, this is a wake-up call, a notification that investments in what were once seen as traditionally safe areas such as gas, coal, and oil are likely to see disruption in the very near future.
Not only from weather damage loss but also from increased national and international restrictions and accompanying taxes.
Let’s continue returning the natural environment to where it belongs.
