Sergiu Catana

I first saw the sunlight at 9:45, the morning of May, 30th of 1986. I started studying music at the age of 6, being led by my mother who is a Music History teacher. First off, was the piano. At age 7 I started school at the National College of Arts 'Ion Vidu'. Continued with the piano until the 4th grade, when slowly I started focusing my attention towards percussion. I had this feeling - I didn't know where it came from, until my mother told me that when I was young, aged 3, all my brothers were playing instruments - piano, bass, violin and trumpet - and I was hiting frying pans with wooden spoons and such like crazy! So yeah, I come from a family of musicians. The years passed by, as I was studying percussion.. Participated at several contests, as a soloist, and later on, in 9th grade with a percussion ansamble. After the 9th grade I started playing drums with a christian rock band, having lots of gigs in my country. I played with them until I attended the Jazz and Pop Faculty of Richard Oschanitzky. I wanted to go to this faculty because I wanted to learn more about the drumset, and incorporate more of different jazz styles and such... For the first year I played in a combo where the teachers assigned me to. I studied classical percussion at the local conservatorium for four years after that.

In the pressent I try to incorporate everything i've leard so far about music, color and texture in my colaborations with diferent bands and artists, and also learning new things about life and the wonders of it's diferent aspects.
