Seth Chalmers
Professional engineer Seth Chalmers studied civil engineering from 1980 to 1982 at the University of Arizona before embarking on a successful career in the traffic and transportation engineering industry. Seth Chalmers also did graduate work at Arizona State University in 1985. At the Howard, Needles, Tammen & Bergendoff (HNTB) architecture and engineering consulting firm, Seth Chalmers spent five years supervising design consultants in the construction of pavement marking, traffic signals, and roadway lighting for Interstate 10’s Papago Freeway Inner Loop in Arizona. Then in October 1988, Chalmers began a two-year stint with the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) Urban Highways Section, where he assisted in the management and coordination of design aspects for 15 miles of urban freeways. As ADOT’s Project Engineer, Seth Chalmers helped update the Urban Highway Design Procedures Manual, in addition to his work with the Red Mountain Freeway Design Concept Report. Following his experience with ADOT, Seth Chalmers joined the Tudor Engineering Company as Project Manager and Traffic Engineer. Chalmers’ impressive record of accomplishments with Tudor included conducting a traffic study of safety and vehicle-capacity improvement strategies for one of the busiest stations along the Mexico–U.S. border. Also while at the Tudor, he was the Project Manager and Design Engineer for the Grand Avenue Traffic System Management (TSM) project. This project required the development of a variety of unique and innovative traffic control strategies which included a 12-phase traffic controller and the use of traffic signal bridges ("staples") at five- and six-legged intersections. In 1994, ADOT presented Chalmers with the Construction Excellence Award. Seth Chalmers later expanded his skills as an engineer during tenures with BRW, Inc.; Lee Engineering; and TASK Engineering Company (formerly known as Chalmers Engineering Company). Seth Chalmers currently works in Tempe, Arizona, as President and Owner of Chalmers Engineering Services Inc.
