Seun Akinyemi
Project Manager, Writer, and Volunteer in Lagos, Nigeria
Seun Akinyemi is a Project Officer - Host Liaison at Civicus. Prior to joining Civicus, Seun worked with Creative Space, where he managed Growth4Her - An accelerator programme targeted at women SMEs in Nigeria and Cameroon funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB). He facilitated strategic partnerships with banks such as Access Bank, Union Bank, Sterling Bank and the Bank of Industry to provide access to finance for the programme beneficiaries.
He also worked with Enough is Enough (EiE) Nigeria, and managed various programs focused on elections, press freedom, anti-corruption, local governance, justice and gender equality. His research contributions were published weekly as infographics in over 5 newspapers in Nigeria. He coordinated a Pan-African New Media, Citizens and Governance (NMCG) Conference organised by BudgIT, Paradigm Initiative (PIN) and EiE Nigeria. During the #TwitterBan in Nigeria, he coordinated EiE’s advocacy engagement.
He has also served as a contractor with the Bureau of Communication and Strategy of Ekiti State Government, where he pioneered the design and content development of a newsletter in the state - 'Ekiti Weekly', a platform used to provide updates on government activities and opportunities to citizens.
Seun holds a Master of Political Science from the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, and a Bachelor's Degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. He has authored several articles published on local and international platforms. The most recent one is the op-ed on digital rights and closing civic space in Nigeria which was published in Thisday Newspaper.
Currently based in Lagos, Nigeria, Seun is married and enjoys travelling, reading, and listening to music in his leisure time.
