Craig and Haley Severtson
This is us. We met a year back while I (haley) was shopping around for mountaineering gear. An ice axe and a good snow climbing book in, I decided to head over to check out the backpack selection at a local sporting goods store. It was then that my short stature brought me good fortune. While struggling to reach a backpack, I asked a man if he'd please get one down for me, and that's how I met Craig, the love of my life. After discussing the pro's and con's of backpacks, some good climbing stories, and realizing that a couple of hours had miraculously flew by, I finally worked up the nerve to ask for his number. A trip to the climbing gym and a 12 mile snowshoe through whiteout conditions had me hooked. About a month into our relationship, Craig had brought up his plans of leaving land, and all the turmoil that goes along with it and taking off on a freeing journey at sea. As soon as I was asked to go, I was overwhelmed by the idea of starting a new life aboard a boat with practicly no knowledge of what to expect, but more than anything excited to learn new skills and a way of life that was completely alien to me. Since our relationship began last year, we have hiked almost 200 miles together, climbed many mountains of rock and snow, have gone 100's of miles to new destinations, and we're ready to create 1000's of miles together under sail.
