Sezin Devi (Koehler)
Writer and Editor in the Bay Area, California
Sezin (rhymes with Celine, not resin or season) Devi Koehler is a Sri Lankan American Third Culture Kid and eclectic writer who has lived in 12 countries — Sri Lanka, Zambia, Thailand, Pakistan, India, USA, Switzerland, France, Spain, Turkey, Czech Republic, and Germany — and 17 cities around the world.
She got her first book deal in October 2022 from Chicago Review Press. ‘Much Ado About Keanu: Toward a Critical Reeves Theory’ (September 2024) is the first ever sociocultural deep dive into Keanu Reeves' entire creative catalog. It's most excellent indeed and available for pre-order wherever you get your books.
With bylines ranging from HuffPost and Bitch Magazine (both in print and online) to Entertainment Weekly and Teen Vogue, to pop-culture journalism sites like Black Girl Nerds and Looper, Sezín writes about movies, television, human rights, politics, intersectional feminism, creative non-fiction, and much more.
Author of the feminist horror treatise American Monsters (2011) and the supernatural noir featuring feminist zombies Crime Rave (2015), Sezin is also working on a sporror (mushroom horror) novel that's ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’ meets ‘The Last of Us,’ as well as a Florida gothic tale that's ‘Cloud Atlas’ meets ‘Carnivàle.’
Sezin is an accomplished commissioning editor who helmed a six-book middle-grade Racial Literacy series for Enslow Publishing (2019), the first of its kind in the USA. She is currently shopping around an essay anthology ‘Bill & Ted University: The Social Sciences of Their Excellent Adventures,’ as well as curating 'Flowers Out of the Attic: Personal and Critical Perspectives on VC Andrews' Dollanganger Saga.'
She is also a copyeditor and sensitivity consultant for the American Association of Medical College's educational journal MedEdPORTAL, where she helped them update their style guide to more inclusive and anti-racist language.
Sezin currently calls a hidden Bay Area mountain town home. She can almost see the Pacific Ocean from her back porch.
