Sam Faber is a gastrointerologist and onconlogist who also teaches, and has been active in the fight for universal health care.

This year, Reuters took home top journalistic honors for the Barlett & Steele Awards for Investigative Business Journalism.Reuters’ winning piece was “Diagnosed with Breast Cancer, Dropped by Insurer", was wrktten by Murray Waas. The article, packed with interviews with patients and officials alike, examined the dubious practices of WellPoint. The Murray Waas story disclosed that WellPoint had developed algorithms to target policyholders diagnosed with breast cancer. These patients were then singled out by WellPoint with the intent to cancel their policies. The article drew attention from Washington, which urged major insurers, to stop the practice.
