New Delhi, India

I have always enjoyed being out on the road, away from the usual, relishing and learning from new experiences- good and bad both. Any unknown destination brings with it a box full of surprises which you uncover everyday while travelling. I have sailed in the backwaters of Kerala, spent a night in the middle of the dunes in Jaisalmer and swam in the beaches of Goa; but it is the mountains that have always had the most magical and magnetic effect on me since I was a kid.

After exploring almost every popular tourist town in the mountains over the years, in 2012 August, I decided to go for my first ‘trek’. I had never trekked before but I wanted to do it independently – without hiring porters or guides. I don’t know how many of you have tried it, but trekking solo is an experience that all mountain lovers should try at least once. It is only then do you realize the wonders of true solitude and the gift of being all alone with Nature.

After much deliberation, I chose to go to Deoria Tal, Tungnath and Chandrashila Peak. In hindsight, it might not have been such a brilliant idea to go trekking at over 3000 meters in Uttarakhand in the middle of monsoons! But the glistening shine of the deepest of green after a shower is a sight to behold. That is when everything around you comes to life!

And this short trek was the start of my ever increasing bond that I feel being with untamed Nature. I started going to Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand almost every 2 months if not every month to be surrounded with the positive energy that only the Himalayas can give. Squeezing in a day or two with a weekend or just blatantly exploiting the rare but occasional long weekends we get, I began walking the trails leading to the less explored vistas. And now through my blog, I’m trying to share my experiences with everyone and anyone who happen to share the same love for mountains as I do.

In case you have any particular question regarding a trek, suggestions, or maybe you want to do a trek together, please leave a comment or drop me an email at [email protected].

See you on the trail!

Karan.
