Shakira_ asSaeeda (BJ) Jones
Student and TEFL teacher in Brisbane QLD, Australia
Hello, I’m Shakira Jones. I’m a student living in Brisbane.
'Shakira' comes from the word 'thanks' or 'thankful'.
'Assaeeda' means 'happy'. I guess those things are really me: thankful and happy!
I am currently enrolled in A331 Journalism, and am contemplating doing Law. My interest is The Human Condition: Human Rights and representing the marginalised and under-represented cohorts in society, whom wouldn't necessarily have a voice or an advocate.
I have completed 62.5% of a Bachelor of Psychology at Bond Uni (on campus), but fell out of love with the field and wish to help society in a different by having discussions and engaging in social discourse on topics that matter.
I secretly want to do Law in Tri 1 2020, and I am already enrolled to do my Diploma of Arabic then too. I am about to complete my TEFL (teaching English as a Foreign Language) certificate as an online side-hustle while I study. My other side-hustle is Gumtree-ing things, such as plants, which is surprisingly successful for doing nothing except hacking things from my garden I don't want.
I love nature, health & well-being, running, hiking, lifting, snow/jet skiing, along with keto, biohacking, and any research pertaining to these interests.
I also enjoy other things such as really juvenile stationery, academic, empirical, (friendly) debate/discussions, and am generally not afraid to speak my truth.
At 33, I am not so much into adulting as my partiality to really juvenile pastel rainbow stationery attest.
However, I value thought-provoking social commentary, different perspectives, and discourse.
While I have been present on the 'gram for a few years now, I do so in quite a private way, as being 'out-there' is quite daunting to me. I am comfortable to be heard whilst being somewhat invisible, and value having complete discretion over my online interactions. I feel this is a form of self-love. Its nothing personal - you are all very lovely I'm sure. I guess it stems from the idea that my thoughts and ideas are more important than my appearance!
I love to challenge the norm with curiosity am really looking forward to how ALM101 Making Social Media will change (and possibly challenge) my current presence in this digital world (starting with a Twitter account!).
My future dreams are:
-Travelling the world and being a freelance writer.
-Shattering stereotypes everywhere I go.
-Living out of one suitcase.
-Being a voice for those who need to be heard.
Happy Trimester to you all!
Peace,
Shakira
