Hey everyone, I am Shalala Leny and I am running for Executive Chair of Programming. Programming Boards were added to SGA last year in an effort to better reform SGA. I fought for this role to exist and want to fight for your right to have fun at JHU!
In my past 2 years of experience in SGA, I have led event programming for the class of 2024 like the Sophomore Garden Party, Karaoke Night, and Nightclub event. I have experience firsthand with communicating with vendors to get stuff done like providing DJs, a dancer, and mocktails at our last event.
- I also want to further support our cultural groups by holding monthly meetings to directly gauge what our student groups need to represent themselves and enhance campus life.
- I want to plan events that are accessible to all students especially those with disabilities by making sure proper seating and entrances are available and having a direct way students can ask for accommodations at events.
- I hope to liaise with the Dean of Student Life and other administration to provide direct input on what students want to see in school-provided events.
I have a lot of event ideas I want to implement and will have office hours where you can speak directly to me about what you want to see on campus. And more free food!
Lastly, I want to ensure diversity has a place to thrive at Hopkins.
- I helped pass a funding bill for the ASA Fashion Show and I hope to continue this work next year.
- I understand the need for LGBT and Queer BIPOC spaces on campus and hope to collaborate with other groups to host pride events and bring ballroom culture to campus.
I am hardworking and have first-hand experience in planning events in SGA. I am passionate about making campus life exciting and engaging for everyone. Let’s make JHU better together!
