Shanan writes primarily urban fantasy with touches of suspense and horror. She lives in the greater Phoenix area, where she manages to grow gardens, even when the ground is hot enough to fry eggs. She has avid interest in geek topics and fandoms, issues of parenting, desert horticulture, worldwide sustainability, and any-and-all efforts at world peace. She loves archery, cats, aviation and board games, and has performed in a variety of Irish folk bands over the years.
