Shan Moorthy
Melbourne
Shan's life is all about recognising, predicting and breaking patterns. A background in Artificial Intelligence prepared him vocationally for this obsession. Armed with insights on pattern recognition, genetic algorithms and digital organisms, his potential career choices involved writing viruses for malevolent organisations, solving the mysteries of evolution for a philanthropic organisation, or being "that guy" who created Skynet.
Fortunately for generations of humans to come, he decided to unite his secondary passion of graphic design into a career of web development. While some may regard this as a strange turn of events, he has found an application for his knowledge in creating evolving, scalable web applications using either object oriented or functional programming techniques. Currently, as Head of Technology at Penguin Books Australia he enjoys the crafting systems that change the world, while only slightly distracted by a desire for Zen mastery of regex's and applications architecture.
His other major passion involves tinkering and modifying anything with an electrical pulse to his liking. From automating household items, to writing custom applications for his phone, to tracking his dog via GPS triangulation, to hand building a custom ECU for his car, his obsession knows no limits.
This has tied in well with his love of the automobile, in particular, fast ones. While he may have a lifelong commitment to the success of the Skylines Australia community, he has owned everything from classic American muscle, to efficient turbo Japanese, to iconic European design. You can be certain his garage houses, in addition to his daily driver, one dedicated racecar and at least another project car with its engine out.
