Shannon DeVido
Philadelphia, Pa.
Shannon DeVido is an actress, comedian, singer, and writer. After graudating from Middle Tennessee State University, and studying at The People’s Improv Theater in NYC, she has performed comedy around the country as a stand up comedian and improv with her longform teams, Hell on Wheels and Axis of Evil. Shannon has also appeared on Law and Order: SVU as Beth Myers, on Sesame Street with Murray Monster, and on ABC Primetime: What Would You Do. The New York Times said Shannon "is a gifted comedian who can get a laugh just by taking a bite of a potato chip" in the review of her Off-Broadway show, Still More of Our Parts. Her other Off- Broadway work includes The New Hopeville Comics (Flo) and Funny as a Crutch. Finally, her web series, Stare at Shannon, a popular YouTube offering, breaks the conventional image of disability through comedy. “Stare at Shannon” was launched November 28, 2012. Shannon thought, “Huh... If I’m going to be stared at, I might as well be doing something awesome!” She writes, produces, edits, and – with the help of her amazing team – creates bi-monthly episodes with this mantra in mind. The goal of the series is to break the conventional image of disability through comedy. With episodes that consist of riding in a DeLorean, taking on the persona of Rocky, and learning to be an “exotic dancer,” to name a few, that’s exactly what Shannon is doing.
