Hello, I’m Shannon Colee and I'm a Deakin Univeristy student focusing on becoming a journalist. I am interested in all areas and platforms in media but currently I am edging towards becoming a magazine writer.

I believe that the job of a journalist is to investigate, understanding and compute information so that the reader can come to understand a complex issue without themselves having to deeply study it. I would most like to do this for young women as I believe they are underserved in our current political conversations both nationally and globally. I am strongly guided by the principle that the only way to have a strong democratic system is to have a well informed electorate.

As someone who both consumes a lot of media and is from a generation born into the technological age I think it is important that I advance my social media skills, hence my participation in this class.
