Shannon Cowan grew up talking to birds and coveting vintage typewriters. As an adult she has worked as a communications professional, editor and teacher helping people tell their stories. Her first novel for young adults (Tin Angel) received a nomination for the Geoffrey Bilson Award for Historical Fiction and was named as one of Quill and Quire's Best Books of the Year. Shannon is currently working on a novel for teen readers.

Praise for Tin Angel:

"American readers, hooked by this finely woven, heart-wrenching, coming-of-age narration, will be undaunted by the concluding trial with references to Canada’s juvenile-justice system. Instead, they will be treated to revealed secrets, Ronnie’s redemption and a history of political activism that spread across borders."

–Kirkus Reviews

"Shannon Cowan has two adult books to her credit, but Tin Angel marks her debut as a young adult writer. And what a debut. From its short prologue through to the final paragraph, readers will be riveted by this novel."

–Quill and Quire

"...a fascinating and well conceived first foray into YA literature, and whether it is read as enrichment for a high school law class, or as a coming-of-age novel such as Kathy Stinson’s Becoming Ruby, readers will stay with it from the first page to the last."
