I am an educator and happy to be one. In my classroom, I am the Lead Learner. I have a wonderful husband who supports everything that is important to me and a son who is truly a blessing. I received a BA (English and Education) from UNC Asheville and an MA (School Administration) from Gardner Webb University. I am currently teaching middle grades language arts and social studies in rural Western NC.
My Classroom Mission:
Safety, Quality, Production
Safety: We create a safe and secure learning environment by being friendly to each other; we don't have to all be friends. Being friendly means being nice to each other - treating each other how we want to be treated. Being nice to each other also means protecting each other from ourselves as well as from others. We help each other become better people.
Quality: Our lessons, activities, and interactions encourage learning and use the best strategies for the tasks.
Production: Our environment and our interactions produce positive change and movement.
So...
- Was it nice? Did it help anyone?
- Do we understand what we studied today? Do we understand how it fits with our other understandings? Quality over quantity.
- Did it produce positive movement?
My Classroom Vision:
We will achieve our mission by
improvising, adapting, and overcoming.
Improvise: What I thought would happen, didn't, so how can I make it work?
Adapt: How can I use what I have available to complete my task?
Overcome: How can I find a way around the obstacles present to complete my task?
Beliefs:
- Knowledge is power.
- Everyone can improve.
- Constant improvement is how we grow.
- Practice is necessary to make change.
- Working with others is non-negotiable.
- Failure teaches more than success.
- Own what you do.
- Everyone makes mistakes. How one corrects a mistake illuminates character.
- Goal setting is a critical skill. Using data to achieve goals is critical-er.
