Shanta Ledbetter
Jersey City, Nj
Shanta Ledbetter was born and raised in Jersey City NJ. At the age of 3, she began on her musical quest by singing in her great aunt Lucy Mae's church choir. Even at that young and tender age she knew that music was in her spirit. At the age of 5 a very unfortunate circumstance happened in her life which was the passing of her brother and best friend Marcus. As a way to escape the pain that she felt inside she decided to turn it into something artistic and began writing poetry. Her first poem was entitled "My Brother" which was an ode to the life of her sibling. Over the years, she remained a diligent poetry writer and never took her work seriously until one of her school mates read her work and encouraged her to enter into a poetry contest. Shanta entered and won the opportunity to have her poem entitled "Why" published. Shanta's love of music was still beating in her mind and came up with an idea. She asked herself "What if I incorporate both my love of poetry with music and start writing songs?" and just like that, off she went on her journey of songwriting. Shanta is an extremely versatile writer and prides herself with being able to grasp the essence of any genre of music.
