Dean Sharafi

Hi, I’m Dean Sharafi. I’m a writer, translator, engineer and a democracy activist living in Australia. I've been a political prisoner under the Islamic Republic. I have written a memoir, describing life under the Islamic Republic and the 8-year war that followed, shattering the lives of many young people in Iran and Iraq. I was a university student at the time of the revolution and I was deprived of going back to university after the so-called Cultural Revolution. During the war, I had to join the army and served in Iraqi territory for more than two years until Iran accepted the ceasefire and the war came to an end. My hope is that by sharing my story I have helped humanity and have done a little to prevent the same injustice that happened to me and my generation, to others in the future.
